Katherine Returns

After a soul-searching period, Katherine has announced that she is to return to full training with the aim of competing all the way through to the London Olympic Games in 2012.

Amid the procession of celebrations for Britain’s highly-successful Olympic team in Beijing, no-one who saw it could forget the stark images of desolation when Katherine and her crew could not resist the final surge of their Chinese opponents and had to settle for silver in their final, rather than the golds they had set their hearts on.

Katherine took a month out in South Africa and came back to Scotland more than once from her Marlow base to be with friends and family while she reflected on what to do. Now she has made up her mind to carry on. “There wasn’t just one thing that helped me make my decision” she says. “What I had to be sure about was that I had the passion to continue at the top level. I’ve taken into account all the work, and all the sacrifices that you have to make at this level. I’m going to take every year as it comes. And I’m going to keep in mind that there are no guarantees”

“I want to be a positive person in the team and I know I have a strong leadership-by-example role to play”.

Katherine also said,“ my parents have been hugely supportive and I know would back me whatever I decided. They just want me to do whatever is going to make me happy”.
