After two weeks of final preparation, Katherine and her double sculls partner Anna Watkins are set to face a strong field in double sculls at the 2010 World Rowing Championships, with their campaign starting on Monday 1stNovember.
Thirteen crews have entered the event, and the British duo will face strong opposition from Australia, Germany and defending champions Poland, with a further challenge possible from dark horses USA.
Despite the strength of these crews, Anna and Katherine are undefeated so far this year, winning the World Cup series in strong style, and thereby making them pre-event favourites.
Despite this, Katherine sounds a word of caution. “Yes, we had a successful, unbeaten World Cup season” she says, “but it’s been some months since we last raced. We didn’t go to the European Championships where the standard of the double sculls crews was high, but we know we’ve good a good race or two in us in what will be a competitive event, and we want to be tested”.
She added, “I’d quite like to be a world champion again”.
