Katherine with HRH at SportsAid Athlete Workshop

On Friday October 18 the Duchess of Cambridge, Patron of SportsAid, will attend a SportsAid Athlete Workshop at the Copper Box in London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Her Royal Highness will view young SportsAid athletes taking part in a number of sports activities, including wheelchair basketball, CP football, volleyball, fencing and badminton.

The Duchess will then join the athletes and their parents as they attend educational workshops about nutrition in sport, working with the media and how to make the best use of social media. They will also get valuable advice from Olympians and Paralympians including Katherine Grainger, Ade Adepitan and Karen Pickering.

As her first visit as SportsAid’s Patron, the engagement will provide the Duchess with an opportunity to meet the athletes and their parents and get a detailed insight into the challenges they face.

The event is by invitation only.

About SportsAid

SportsAid helps the next generation of British athletes by being the first to recognise their achievements and support their ambitions. Since it was established in 1976, the charity has helped many of the UK’s most successful sportsmen and women, including two-thirds of the British team at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, some of whom will be at the workshop.

Athletes supported by SportsAid include some of our brightest hopes for Olympic and Paralympic success. SportsAid awards help them to meet essential costs such as travel, training, accommodation, competition fees and equipment. Olympians and Paralympians who will be at the workshop include Katherine Grainger, Mark Hunter, Leon Taylor, Karen Pickering, Ade Adepitan, Steve Parry, Danny Crates, Steve Williams, Alistair Patrick-Heselton and Gail Emms – all of whom were supported by SportsAid early in their careers.
