OLYMPIC rowing star Katherine Grainger has opened Trent College’s latest state-of-the-art fitness suite today.
The London 2012 champion and three-time Olympic silver medalist was joined by Britain’s first ever taekwondo gold medalist at the 2012 Games, Olympic badminton star and broadcaster Gail Emms and legendary BBC sports broadcaster Eleanor Oldroyd as part of the school’s ‘Here Come The Girls’ event.
Pupils from other local schools, including Friesland School, Firfield Primary, Long Eaton School and Wilsthorpe School and Sawley Junior School also attended the event.
The new fitness suite includes aerobic machines, weights machines and a free weights and exercise area.
Trent College Director of Sport Adam Benstead said: “The new facility will complement the strong sports programme that continues to be offered at Trent.
“It will be open for use to pupils and staff across the school through PE lessons, sports afternoons and as part of the school’s extra-curricular Enrichment programmes.
“It will be able to fully cater for our high performance sportsmen and sportswomen to support their training and recovery.”
