A new chapter begins…
In September 2014, Katherine returned to full-time training with the GB Rowing Squad with Rio 2016 Olympics in her sights.
She competed in her first international event since London 2012 at the end of May 2015, the European Championships in Poznan, Poland. Katherine and new rowing partner in the double sculls, Vicky Thornley, came home with a Bronze medal behind World Champions Poland and Lithuania.
The pairing then went on to win a Bronze medal at the World Cup II in Varese, Italy, in a time of 06:55.67 narrowly beating the Polish double in an exciting finish.
World Cup III took the GB Rowing team to the beautiful setting of Lake Rotsee, Lucerne. Katherine and Vicky took second place in their heat in a time of 06:50.97 putting them through to the semi-final. An unfortunate error in the semi ended their medal hopes. In the ‘B’ final they won comfortably ahead of Finland in a time of 06:58.87.
At the World Rowing Championships in Aiguebelette, France at the end of August, Katherine and Vicky qualified the double scull boat for a place at the Rio Olympics in 2016. They now have the hard winter season of training ahead of them before the final GB Rowing selection trials in March 2016.
